Join Avatâra Ayuso from Shobana Jeyasingh Dance as they offer participants a fascinating insight into the company’s practice and unique choreographic process using repertory from across Shobana Jeyasingh’s many works.

This course is suitable for intermediate and advanced students with experience in contemporary dance, with an understanding of terminology and solid technique. The residency will include a full warm-up and class each day, followed by exploring of repertoire and some creative tasks with an informal sharing at the end of the third day. 

Participants will explore current works such as Material Men redux performed at The Place on 28 and 29 April 2017 as well as Bayadère –The Ninth Life featured at Sadler’s Wells Sampled ahead of its tour in Autumn 2017.

Established in 1988, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance is one of the world’s leading dance companies. The company works across the United Kingdom and internationally to produce and tour dance works by artistic director and choreographer, Shobana Jeyasingh. Each year, the Company engage up to 30,000 people through performances and a range of education projects.

Teacher's Biography:

Avatâra Ayuso
Avatâra graduated in Ballet and Linguistics in Spain before studying at London Contemporary Dance School. She was part of D.A.N.C.E. programme where she worked under the artistic direction of William Forsythe, Wayne McGregor, Frédéric Flamand and Angelin Preljocaj. She has a Master Klass by Palucca Schule Dresden and leadership training by Open University and the Clore Leadreship Programme. As a choreographer she has several short and full-length productions for her company AVA Dance, presented internationally. She has been funded by several institutions among them Arts Council England and British Council. 

Avatâra is Associate Artist at the European Centre for the Arts Hellerau Dresden and Associate Company of Creative Academy Slough (UK). She has been nominated for the UK National Dance Awards 2015. She has worked for Shobana Jeyasingh Dance since 2007.
