The workshop will give you an insight into Wayne’s distinctive style of dance theatre and illuminate his creative processes. The workshop will be dynamic, physically complex dance theatre with moments of character and text work. His holistic approach to choreography will not only get you working physically, but also vocally and mentally. You will also get the chance to learn some repertory with Wayne and experience his techniques in practice.
This workshop is suitable for dance, theatre or physical theatre participants.
Wayne creates narrative driven dance-theatre works, blending a sophisticated physicality with text to tell his stories. Starting with a script, Wayne crafts movement that examines the text—revealing the subtext and the unsaid through movement. Wayne then uses both the text and the movement to layer the narrative to produce work that aims to push the boundaries of what dance-theatre can be.
Wayne established his company Wayne Parsons Dance in 2013. Since then the company has been seen both nationally and internationally and has a growing reputation for creating emotionally arresting dance theatre works.
As a movement director Wayne has worked on productions at Shakespeare’s Globe, Theatre Royal Stratford East and Central School of Speech and Drama.
Wayne’s long-term engagements as a performer include five years of domestic and international touring with National Dance Company of Wales (NDCWales), three years with Richard Alston Dance Company and Wayne moved to Australia on an invitation by artistic director Rafael Bonachela to join Sydney Dance Company for a year.
Wayne has also worked with Motionhouse, Mark Bruce Company, Shobana Jeyasingh Dance Company, Alexander Whitley Dance Company, Yorke Dance Project, Smallpetitklein, Joe Moran Dance and Oguike Dance.
Wayne has teaches on the National Centre for Advanced Training schemes at both the Ipswich and Laban programmes. He has also taught and led workshops at Codarts Rotterdam, Beijing Dance Academy, London Contemporary Dance School, Trinity Laban, Mountview Academy of the Theatre Arts and London Studio Centre. Wayne also teaches regularly for professional dance companies and open professional platforms throughout the uk.
